This role is designed for students who have recently completed a relevant degree or those undertaking a required “year in industry” as part of their course — ready to turn their knowledge into real impact while growing alongside us.

Subject to an enhanced DBS check (with Children’s Barred list)

Role: Sports Science Internship

Contract duration: 10 -11 months

Type: Internship

Hours: Full time hours are 40 per week. Applicants must be prepared to work outside of normal office hours, evenings, weekends, bank and public holidays to cover for match days and other club events as required.

Department: Men’s First Team & Boys Academy

Location: Wrexham (various sites)

The Role

Wrexham AFC have several Sports Science paid internships available for the 2026/2027 football season. 

Successful applicants will learn a comprehensive range of skills to progress their career once completing University.  Reporting into the clubs Head of Performance and relevant Sports Science lead.  These roles will allow interns to learn and develop within a fast pace and demanding elite environment.   

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES DUING THE INTERNSHIP

  • Providing accurate GPS reports of team and individual analysis on a daily, weekly basis.
  • Ensure Train my Athlete (TMA) / Football Intelligence Platform (FIP) is consistently and regularly updated in relation to all Sport Science, S & C, and data requirements.
  • Assist with daily workflow to set up training and gym sessions.
  • Ensuring individualised, developmental programmes are implemented for players to support development.
  • Contributing towards player rehab and performance programmes.
  • Assist in nutrition and hydration preparation for the team and individuals.
  • Working matchdays and assisting as directed by relevant staff.
  • Support the training sessions / gym sessions / rehab sessions as requested.
  • This role will suit someone with a keen interest in Strength & Conditioning as part of their Sports Science qualification

EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED

  • Studying towards a degree in Sports Science (or equivalent level of qualification) with a placement year
  • Experience of working with athletes – from novice and amateur; to professional
  • Experience of completing physical exercise and strenuous activities
  • A current FA/FAW Safeguarding Children Workshop Certificate (or willingness to complete within 1 month of appointment)
  • Have a keen interest in Strength and Conditioning aspect of sports science
  • Ability to meet the travel needs of the post (which includes travel across the UK and occasionally overseas)
